It was so interesting and informative to find a web site on my family’s heritage! I am the great, great, great (possibly another great, I’m not certain) grand-daughter of Francis Arenz. My grandmother was Mary Louise Arenz (Mallicoat) who married Arthur Mallicoat from Beardstown, IL.

It was spooky looking at the picture of Louisa Boss (Arenz), since she bears such a strong resemblance to my grandma! Even my father inherited those eyes and that nose.

If anyone can give me more information about either of my grandparents, I would certainly appreciate it! I’m sure there are still people alive today that would remember at least one of them.

Just putting in a test entry to see if the guestbook entry page is still functioning the way it is supposed to. If you made an entry in the guestbook and don't see it show up here on this page, please let me know since this thing decides to misbehave now and then.

Hello all my friends in Arenzville.  This is Carl Bischoff, son of Rev. George and Patricia Bischoff.  Dad was pastor at st. Peters Lutheran Church.
I had kind of forgotten about this web page until I subscribed to Classmates.com and was writing a letter to Donald Mason, an old classmate and friend.  I brought the page up and gave the URL to him.
To any of you who read this, I would appreciate it if someone could give my email address to Mike Beets, on the outside chance that he has a computer.
I do miss the good times growing up in (near) Arenzville.  I graduated from Triopia High in 1965 and would love to get in touch with other class mates.  Hopefully many more may read this and check out Classmates.com
If anyone would like to contact me then just send an email to GACBIII at spinn.net or drop me a line at:

I will know when your mail comes since I am still a mailman and I deliver my own home!  hahaha
God's Blessings on each of you.

Great site!!  I was surfing the Web and found the site on Burgoo.  Boy did that bring back memories.  I taught school at Trinity from 1970 to 1974 while my wife taught at the public school down the street.  We both would love to hear from any of our former students and old friends.

Really a fun site for "flash backs".  I am the son of Henry & Mildred (Braner) Hansmeier.  Both parents are deceased.  My brother, Jack, splits his time between Anchorage AK & Palm Springs, CA -- Can you quess where he spends his winters.  My memories of Arenzville, Triopia, and Burgoo are becoming more special every day.  I would welcome email for catch-up from the good people I have known in the world's greatest little town!

What a wonderful site!  Certainly brings back a lot of great memories ...  Scrolling through the guestbook and seeing all the familiar names ...  Looking at all the old (and new) pictures.  Given much of the Burgoo theme, I'm just surprised I couldn't find the lyrics to the title song from the school play Burgoo!  Would that be giving away the recipe or would Mr. Bradbury sue for copyright infringement.  No matter, this will be a place to "check in" every so often.  Thanks.

I WAS SO SHOCKED AND PLEASENTLY SUPRISED TO SEE THE ARENZVILLE BURGOO HOME PAGE, I GREW UP IN ARENZVILLE ON THE EDGE OF TOWN. I AM CHARLES AND PATRICIA HIERMAN'S DAUGHTER. I WENT INTO THE NAVY RIGHT OUT OF SCHOOL AND THEN GOT MARRIED AND MOVED AROUND ALOT WHILE HE WAS IN THE CORPS AND ENDED UP IN GEORGIA. A FAR CRY FROM ARENZVILLE,ILL. I MISS THE TOWN FOLK AND THE TOWN SO MUCH. I HAVE THOUGHT LONG AND HARD ABOUT MOVING BACK . AND I TO RECALL A GREAT TIME AT BURGOO AND AT THE TEEN DANCES. AND I REMEMBER A GREAT TIME FISHING IN THE CREEKS NEARBY AND CHASING LIGHTNING BUGS, AS A CHILD. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK. IT BROUGHT A TEAR TO MY EYE AND A SMILE TO MY HEART TO SEE ALL THE PICTURES OF THE TOWN AND THE FAMILIAR FACES THAT BRIGHTEN IT UP. AND TO ST PAULS LUTHERN CHURCH HELLO AND I MISS THE SMALL FAMILY HOOD OF MY LITTLE CHURCH BACKHOME. GOD BLESS ALL AND KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK. I just read about the Burgoo Festival in the American Profile magazine and decided to look at your web site. I have lived in various cities in central Illinois all of my life, and I can't believe this is the first time I've ever heard about Arenzville and the Burgoo.  I'd love to come down and give it a taste-test myself one day! Your community sounds like a lovely place to live!

I'm a relative of the founder of Arenzville & have always wanted to visit there. I wonder if the "Marie" that is celebrating her 100th birthday is the historian of Arenzville that my brother Richard Arenz spoke to some years ago when he visited there.

From the webmaster: Thanks for your warm compliments, Jonathan. We hope you'll make it to next year's Burgoo. There are many recipes for burgoo, but one that is closest to what is made in Arenzville was credited to Mr. Elza Perry. It is posted here on the website. As for other recipes, the Triopia Women's Club has produced a cookbook with many other local recipes, and it is for sale at the Burgoo. The proceeds support projects which benefit the local communities.

I'm embarrassed to admit that it has been years since I have attended the Arenzville Burgoo.  This year I'm coming!!  In fact, my brother Jack is also coming from Anchorage, Alaska.  We will be around town on Saturday the 8th.  So, if anybody who might know/remember either of us is interested in seeing fatter, but wiser (excluding our ability to remember as well) versions of us, please keep on the lookout.  We would love the challenge of trying to identify who you are.

My father was born and raised inthe area and I have been to very Burgoo since the age of 7 and now I am 18, but I wouldn't miss it for the world. It gives me a chance to see my family I don't get to see very often and meet new family members I didn't even know existed, and I also get to eat some of the best stew I have ever had.

I was also hoping maybe someone might have some information on my family we don't have, my father is Richard(Dick) Winkelman son of Leland and Patricia Winkelman. I know we are related to some Lovekamps and Schrodts but we haven't been to sucessful finding anymore information on our family tree.I browsed through the 2000 guestbook and saw some Lovekamps and a few Winkelmans, but I wasn't to sure if we were even related. I know I have a lot of relatives in the area so it is hard to remember the names of my family that are not really close in relation. If anyone has any information that they think would be useful it would be appriciated. You can Email me and my sister at Tiffer77 at hotmail.com. Thanks
