I found out about your sight from Ross & June Huston. I was particularly interested in your information on "the World's Best Burgoo." Your Web Page is now located in my "Favorites" file so I can keep abrest about what is happening in Arenzville and when your Burgoo goes on sale each year. So happy that we live near you.

Hello Arenzville: I am a friend of Becky Clark Decker's. I visited Burgoo 96' with Becky and stayed with her Mom, Jean Clark. What a great time we had. The Arnezville hospitality was wonderful. The picture is etched in my mind of those men and women cooking Burgoo at midnight. The fire underneath those pots and the steam rising off the top. And was it tasty the next day. Mm Mm good. I could see the enormous amount of work that goes into this yearly event and it was very heartwarming to see the people of Arenzville all pull together to make it happen. It was a fun and memorable weekend and I can't wait to come back. Get the porch swing ready Jean, I think 99 ' will have to be the year. Hi to all my other friends there... Millie, Myron, Jennette, Sherry. You've all made me feel so welcome. Thanks from the bottom of my heart.

How are you doing? I am standing a mid-watch in the Navy right now. I am from Jacksonville but my mom Edna Natemeyer lives outside of town. I was surfing the net and checked on the news from back home and came across the burgoo article. While reading, it brought back quite a few memories of past burgoo's. I guess that I just wanted to say thanks for the memories and I hope that I am home for this years burgoo.

Neat website! I was surfing looking for details of the recent Triopia boys basketball successes and came across www.burgoo.org. Gave me some good memories...although I grew up on a farm on the other side of Concord, I think I took probably 750 trips over the years to Arenzville to play baseball, eat Burgoo, visit friends, and then to visit my girlfriend Jennie (now my wife of 14 years and mother of 4). Go Trojans!

Does anyone know if the Emerick family is still in town? My Grandfather, Leo Jones (Arenzville resident his whole life) got Harold Emerick to take me for a ride in his dump truck while they were paving the Beardstown road...must have been 35 years ago. It made an impression on me the rest of my life. Im a dump trucker now. Thanks

Great to see Arenzville with such community pride and such a well done website. Got the url from my mother, Betty Arenz, in San Diego. My father was Robert F. Arenz (San Diego, CA), and my grandfather was Harry Arenz (also of San Diego). My great-grandfather was Henry Arenz (of Denver CO)and past that I am not sure whether Francis Arenz was his father, but probably was his grandfather (I don't know who was in between). Anyway, I still have pictures of them in my house! You've done a great job...keep it up.

SERIOUSLY - WEB PAGE IS NEAT. TIM FOUND IT AND PASSED IT ALONG. ALWAYS THINK OF MY YEARS IN ARENZVILLE AND GREAT TIMES.

I can't really write that I have alot of memories from living in Arenzville since I was 4 years old when we moved. But, listening to my brother and sisters reminise over the "old" times sounds like it was a great place to grow up. I do remember however being told stories of how Burgoo was made and that was enough for me. It's funny how they say within every 6 people you met you have something or someone in common - isn't that right, Roger Burrus? I worked for Roger at Cunningham Children's Home in Urbana for 9 years and my sister Leesa works with Toni Surratt at Blue Cross Blue Shield. Hope to be there this year with everyone to hear more great stories about the great town of Arenzville.

If she is representative of folks from the Arenzville area, it must be a very friendly, delightful and charming place to live. We share a love for burgoo and met at the 21st anual International Bar-B-Q Festival in Owensboro, Kentucky. I'm hoping my family and I get up to Arenzville this fall to see the area that looks and sounds so wonderful from the website. Keep up the great work Molly!

- Greetings from Southern California. -- Molly, you did a heck of a job setting up this website. I was amazed and delighted to discover it after it was pointed out to me by my sister and brother in law (Susan and Bob Nikolai of St.Louis). It brings back many great memories of the hometown, especially the burgoo. Does anyone out there know the whereabouts of Mike Abernathy? If anyone from the Arenzville high school class of '58, give or take a decade or so, is seeing this, drop me a line at the above [e-mail] address. It would be nice to hear what is going on with everyone.

- Perhaps "the third time is the charm." My wife (Susan Shannon Nikolai) and I have recently returned from Southern California. That sojourn included a short visit with Susan's brother, Jim, and his wife, Marcy. Jim is recently retired from McDonnell-Douglas, now Boeing. Jim and Marcy have lived in the Long Beach, CA, area for a long time, but they are moving later in the year to the Sacremento, CA, area and into a brand new house. Their son, Jimmy, is completing his sophomore year nearby at University of California-Davis. Jim thinks that former Arenzville-area resident and classmate Mike Abernathy may now live in the Sacramento area. They would have graduated from high school together about forty years ago. For the next several months, Jim can be reached via e-mail at "shannonjm@aol.com." We all enjoy the Website, and may try to cut the recipe for fifty gallons of soup to a manageable size.

- Surfed onto your extremely professional-looking web site while perfoming geneology research. I believe my great-great-great grandfather was Frederick Wedeking, and he may have been the brother of Eberhard Wedeking. Both Wedeking men part of Arenzville's founding community. From past research years ago with my uncle, I have a translated copy of Eberhard's will, which was written in German. However, I don't have much information on Frederick Wedeking, who I believe is my paternal line. I would like to solicit any help I can get from any Arenzville or area residents who have any information on the Wedeking clan in Arenzville. I'm especially keen on getting immigration records and taking that research through to fruition to include research in Germany. I've already spoken via e-mail and ICQ with a couple Wedeking's in Germany, but I've lost touch with them. My father, Jerry Wedeking, and grandfather, Glenn Wedeking, were both born in Beardstown. My grandfather recently passed away after retiring from farming in central Illinois and he is buried in the cemetary just outside Beardstown. Any research help or tips from anyone would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again and congratulations on a super-looking site.

- The web site is great! Especially enjoyed the beautiful pictures of farmland. Having been a former area resident, I can still "taste" and "smell" a delicious bowl of burgoo! Florence Jane, could you save me a bowl of Carol's burgoo?

- Great web site. I wish that I could come back more often. I just took a job in the Chicago area as a landscape account manager. All of my immediate family, except for my brother Jacob live in Arenzville. My grandparents are Dean and Wanda Stock, and my parents are Mike and Sue Stock. I plan on attending Burgoo 99. Somebody better keep an eye on Matt Roegge, he is a trouble maker.

- I really missed cooking Burgoo this year...That as you can tell by "two" entries here that I have to learn not to hit the enter key so often. It tends to submit the comments before I was ready. God Bless.

- On a whim I searched for "Arenzville" and landed here. What a nostalgic trip this has been! Little ole Arenzville has a big city website that seems to wlecome us emigrants home. Congratulations on a class act! I miss not being able to attend the Burgoos, and have plans to do so after I retire (some years hence). I just acquired Lydia Witte's burgoo recipe and can't wait to try it out. Hello to my brother Bill & family, Mom and Dad, and old friends.
